Tip Of The Day #45, Part 2 - Productivity Perfection
Paul Meyer, founder of the Success Motivation Institute, believes that, “productivity is never an accident. It is always a product of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort”.
Why continuously lecture employees on increasing their workplace productivity, when appealing to their own, “commitment to excellence and ability to plan and focus their efforts” is so much more effective? In other words, you will have more success if you give them the responsibility and let them do it themselves.
Instruct your team to keep a detailed time sheet of their daily activities so the percentage of revenue generating or “billable” hours can be calculated for each employee. Studies have shown that if employees are required to document each completed task and its corresponding time expenditure, it brings any awkward deficiencies to their attention so, ultimately, they increase their own overall productivity.
Clearly, time sheets make your team accountable. Make them easy to complete and review them daily to discover duplication of efforts and any other discrepancies that could eliminate wasting valuable minutes.
